Read more about us at Over here JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease juvenile diabetes because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. So a few years ago, we changed our name to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation. The Commons at Federal Way (previously Sea Tac Mall), the city's only indoor shopping center, is located on S 320th St. and Pacific Hwy South (State Route 99) near the city's main Interstate 5 exit. Two newspapers are published within Federal Way. The Federal Way Mirror and the Federal Way News. The city receives additional coverage from most major media sources in both Seattle and Tacoma. In 2008 the Federal Way Historical Society worked with Arcadia Publishing to publish Images of America: Federal Way (ISBN 0-7385-5898-2), a photographic history of the traditional Federal Way area. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person s pancreas stops producing insulin. It occurs when the body s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and at present nothing you can do to get rid of it. While people with T1D rely on insulin therapy to control their blood sugar, insulin is not a cure nor does it prevent the possibility of the disease s serious side effects. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, -cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. Meg & Friends on the channel Today made a broadcast about the street demonstration across America dedicated to JDRF and diabetes official day November 22nd. A great number of people, regardless the November frost, came out to show their sympathy and consideration to all those people with diabetes. Every year in the same day all around the country thousands of people come out to support JDRF. People give interviews and try to attract attention to all those diseased people and to the leading global organization.
